With Meghalaya witnessing a period of relatively dry weather following days of heavy rain, mercury levels are on the rise across the state.
Shillong recorded a high of 28.4 degrees Celsius yesterday, 3.9 degrees above what is considered normal. Sohra’s high was 28.6 C (5.4 deg above normal) and Umiam 32.6 C (4.0 deg above normal), according to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) update emailed to the press today.
Even the minimum temperatures were higher than normal. The lowest temperatures recorded yesterday were 19.0 C in Shillong (1.8 deg above normal), 19.6 C in Sohra (2.0 deg above normal) and 20.4 C in Umiam (3.0 deg above normal).
According to the IMD website, Tura’s temperatures ranged between a high of 33.9 C and minimum of 28.0 C and Nongstoin’s temperatures ranged between 27.9 C and 18.2 C.
The IMD has predicted scattered thunderstorms in the state tomorrow.
