A suspected drug peddler on his way from Manipur to Shillong was arrested in East Jaiñtia Hills while transporting heroin in a vehicle with no registration number today.
The accused has been identified as Nehtinmang Haokip (36) of M Songgel village, Churachandpur district in Manipur. The total weight of the contraband recovered was 900 gms worth Rs 7.2 crore.
Haokip was intercepted at Ratacherra check post at around 8 am transporting a 50 litres black plastic gallon in a Mahindra pickup truck.
During the search 84 soap cases were found in the vehicle. The boxes contained yellowish orange powder and preliminary tests confirmed heroin, police said.
A case under sections of NDPS Act was registered and investigation is on.
