East Shillong MLA and cabinet minister Ampareen Lyngdoh has called upon the Dorbar Shnongs and faith leaders to discuss the rising problem of crimes against women.
Lyngdoh said that it is not just women but children too who are increasingly the victims of crime. “Families are the foundation of teaching about living with peace and tranquility in society,” she added.
Lyngdoh said that one thing is speaking about the problem but another important point is that legislators should delve deeper into what are the redressal mechanisms needed to be taken to see that children and women are safe in society.
She also spoke on the issue of legal aid for those who cannot afford lawyers. Lyngdoh is also Law Minister and opined that legal aid lawyers deserve higher remuneration for their work in representing the poor.
