The Ministry of Law and Justice must ensure “Justice” as the name implies and as enshrined as the first word in the preamble to the constitution of India to ensure this year that the remainder 4 states of India namely Mizoram, Arunachal, Nagaland and Goa have their own High Courts. Critics of the Union Government have always said that the Central Government either INC or BJP whomever is power always adopted a step motherly treatment to the North Eastern States (NES) by citing the lack of existence of High Courts in the states of this region of the current three North Eastern States now as one of the any examples of such ghastly treatment. If one is to take a trip down memory lane, a lot of fuss was made about Ram Jethmalani’s brilliance. However, when he was the union Justice minister during his tenure, he failed to make it his mantra to establish a high court in each and every state in India which I viewed as his failure as the Union Law and Justice Minister at that time.
It is my unwavering opinion that all states of states of India must absolutely, fundamentally and compulsorily have their own respective High Courts all the more so after 79 years of Independence. What better way to celebrate the upcoming year for the Prestigious 80 th Independence by granting these states their own respective high courts this year. Ladakh will attain its statehood one way or the other either under BJP or Congress rule. The Justice Ministry must fundamentally ensure “justice and equality” based not on the “Race” of the Ladakh – North East people but based on ensuring equitable dispensation of justice. The Union Cabinet must set up a Divisional Bench of the Jammu and Kashmir High Court with all the infrastructure suited for establishing a high court so that when the time of statehood accession is approved, conversion of this divisional bench into a high court will only be for nomenclature’s sake. For this “Trailblazing” reformative act of approving the four high courts for the remaining four states and a Divisional Bench in Ladakh, I will remain eternally grateful to the union Justice minister, Honourable Arjun Meghwal.
