A little under 25 per cent of all healthcare workers in Meghalaya have so far received one round of the Covishield vaccine to protect them against Covid-19.
This was informed by Director of Health Services, Dr. Aman War while speaking to media persons here on Monday.
Dr. War said that rumours that the vaccine is not safe are baseless.
To boost confidence, Dr. War has taken the first round of the vaccine, along with the Director of Health Services (Research) Dr. H C Lyndem and the Mission Director of the National Health Mission, Ram Kumar.
According to the DHS, 7,600 health workers have received the first round of vaccination (other figures from the Health Department revealed under 7,500 recipients) out of a statewide total of 33,185, which works out to around 23 percent.
However, the Central government has provided two rounds of vaccines only for around 17,000 health workers in the first phase of the nationwide immunisation drive.
“As health workers we are always advocating prevention; the vaccine is protection and prevention. So now I appeal to all the health workers across the State: take advantage of what has been offered lest in later days and months to come you feel regret,” he said.
“They are health workers whose advice matters in relation to the health of others. This is something they have to acknowledge,” he added.
