New Governor Chandrashekhar H. Vijayashankar said development with no personal or political agenda is his priority in Meghalaya.
Speaking to reporters after his swearing in ceremony in Raj Bhavan here today he said, “I will fulfill my duties as a Governor and take everybody into confidence. Development will be my priority and will not keep any personal or political agenda. Prime Minister and President of India have sent me here to serve the state and that’s my responsibility. Whatever I’m supposed to look after, I’ll stick to that.”
He emphasized his mission to earn the trust of the people and said, “When I go back from here I want to be known as a people’s governor and that people will remember me as one of the honest most development oriented governor.”
Vijayashankar said Meghalaya is known for its cleanliness and a peaceful state with no law and order problem.
Asked about the insecurities of the people of the state and the demand for the implementation of Inner Line Permit (ILP), the Governor stated he is familiar with the region’s challenges and his commitment to resolving them to ensure justice for its residents.
The new Governor also felt privileged that when he first entered the parliament as an MP, late Purno A Sangma was the speaker then. And now he is here with Purno’s son as the chief minister of Meghalaya.
