Jorabat was left reeling today after incessant rainfall led to severe flooding, which caused significant disruption to daily life and damage to property.
The flooding led to heavy traffic jams, stranded vehicles and the closure of businesses along National Highway 37 in Ri-Bhoi.
The floodwaters invade St Jude Secondary School in Umpher, raising concerns about the impact on the school’s operations. The ground floor rooms have been inundated by the water.
The recurring nature of these floods has left citizens frustrated, as they have experienced similar incidents in the past.
It is believed that blockage of drains and channels is a major contributing factor to the flooding.
The water-logging on NH-37 has made commuting a nightmare for motorists, with vehicles unable to navigate through the knee-high water. The resulting traffic congestion has added to the woes of the local community, causing delays and inconvenience to their daily routine.
Shop owners along the highway were forced to shut down their businesses due to the flooding, leading to financial losses and depriving residents of essential goods and services.
