The South Garo Hills District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) has issued a travel advisory for tourists warning them of inclement weather this week in South Garo Hills district.
The meteorological department has forecasted thunderstorm with rain in the State. The DDMA in its advisory urged tourists who plan to visit tourist spots in the district not to visit remote areas for camping.
“Tourists who are planning to visit Wari Chora are advised to visit after the bad weather subsides,” it said, adding tourists are advised to check weather updates.
Tourists are also advised to carry woollens, umbrellas raincoat, waterproof trekking shoes and walking sticks during the journey.

Last year, South Garo Hills district was worst hit by floods and landslides due to heavy rains in the State, as 30 villages were cut-off from the district headquarter of Baghmara.
More than six lakh people were impacted by the bad weather conditions. The weather related calamity damaged 940 villages, 4384 homes and 12 to 15 hectares of crops across the State.
