Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Kyrmen Shylla today informed the Assembly that Deputy Commissioners have access to Rs 20 lakh in advance funds at their disposal for immediate expenses incurred due to natural calamities.
Shylla said this in reply to Nongstoiñ MLA Gabriel Wahlang, whose constituency and the wider West Khasi Hills was hit by extreme bad weather a few months ago.
An additional amount of Rs 50 lakh is also accessible in the event of severe calamities, Shylla added.
He also said that to ensure immediate and effective relief to the people affected by natural calamities, the DCs, through a notification in January this year, are authorised to grant relief assistance from the advance funds placed with them.
