Street vendors and hawkers have been directed to vacate the public footpath and main roads of Jowai.
West Jaiñtia Hills Deputy Commissioner in an order today said that this is being done in view of the counting of votes of the assembly elections and the regular movement problems faced by the general public in the district headquarter.
The order said that hawkers and street vendors occupy the public footpath which not only inconvenienced the general public and pedestrians but also disrupts the free flow of traffic.
The DC said illegal encroachment of hawkers and street has also led to frequent accidents due to heavy congestion of main roads inspite of several orders.
