The West Khasi Hills district administration has announced setting up a judicial inquiry after a mother lost her newborn inside a tourist taxi due to traffic jam caused by a fishing competition.
The decision was taken after a meeting held in Nongstoiñ chaired by Deputy Commissioner, Garod LSN Dykes and attended by Superintendent of Police, Bikram D Marak and other officials today.
Dykes informed that a suo moto case has also been registered on the incident.
Speaking to reporters, the DC also said that all permissions granted by the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) for fishing competitions in the district stand cancelled.
This came after the District Council Affairs Department today revoked a notification that allows the district council to administer and control fishing competitions.
Asked if the organisers of the fishing competition at Pamphyrnai in Ksehkohlong availed permission, the Deputy Commissioner said though they claimed to have sought permission, but the office did not receive any application.
“All matters related to the incident will be dealt with as per law,” he added.
