On receipt of specific information, Officers of HQ Preventive, Customs, NER, Shillongalongwith CPF Silchar intercepted two scooties at Rangirkhari Point, Sonai-Silchar Road, Assam on the evening of January 26.
The scooties were coming from Churachandpur, Manipur and proceeding towards Silchar, Assam. On thorough rummaging, six polythene wrapped packages were found deeply concealed inside each scooty. The orange colour tablets found inside were tested with the NDPS field test kit, which confirmed the presence of methamphetamine in the recovered substance.
The contraband drug weighing 12kg had a value of Rs 12 crore approximately was seized along with the vehicles and two persons were apprehended under the relevant provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act 1985. Further Investigation into the case is under progress.
In the last week, as part of a drug destruction drive, the Commissionerate of Customs, NER, Shillong destroyed seized drugs at Shillong, Guwahati, Imphal, Dimapur and Karimganj. A total of 15.90kg of heroin, 92.776kg of methamphetamine tablets, 355.40gm of cocaine and 1,567.161kg of marijuana valued at a total of Rs 191.328 crore were disposed by destruction in a secure and environmentally responsible manner, ensuring that these harmful substances are permanently removed from circulation.
