The Constitutional Rights Forum (CRF) has questioned the logic behind the move of the principal of Captain Williamson Memorial Government College (CWMGC) issuing a show-cause notice to only one amongst more than 300 students who questioned the requirement for Covid-19 vaccination.
The CRF had, earlier this week, organized a rally after unvaccinated students were asked to continue their classes online, with only those who have gotten the jab allowed back into offline classes. The rally protesting this was held in Baghmara, South Garo Hills, and witnessed good participation.
According to the forum, a notification was served by the school authorities to arts student Nikjrang A Sangma on September 21, directing him to bring his parents to the college on September 28.
“This is condemnable to say the least. There were more than 300 students who participated in the protest. Why single out only one student?” asked CRF president Ricky D Shira.
The forum said that unvaccinated students had protested in a democratic manner and there was no reason to target them. It also urged for free coronavirus tests for those people who are unvaccinated and thus are required to prove that they are Covid-negative.
