      Covid-19: East Khasi Hills reports 3 new deaths

      State records 1000 new cases in less than 1 week

      Covid-19: East Khasi Hills reports 3 new deaths

      Covid-19 claimed another three victims in East Khasi Hills, the Health Department informed today. Meghalaya’s caseload went up by more than 1,000 cases since Monday, with the total now standing at 17,108.

      David Dkhar (66), of Madanrting in Shillong, was admitted to Nazareth Hospital on April 21 and passed away yesterday morning. Cause of death was Covid-19 pneumonia with sepsis, diabetes, hypertension and end-stage renal disease.

      Laxmi Devi (65), of Lad Umsaw in Ri-Bhoi, was admitted to Shillong Civil Hospital on April 20 and passed away today morning. Cause of death was Type 1 respiratory failure due to Covid-19 pneumonia with septic shock, Type 2 diabetes and hypertension.

      Stik Kharlynnai (65), of Mawmaram in East Khasi Hills, was admitted to NEIGRIHMS on April 25 and died today morning. Cause of death was Type 1 respiratory failure with multi-organ dysfunction syndrome, acute kidney injury, acute liver injury, acute pancreatitis, Covid-positive status, ischaemic cardiomyopathy and severe left ventricular systolic dysfunction.

      Meanwhile, 262 cases of Covid-19 were recorded in the state today, setting a new record for 2021 for the second day in a row. Returnees made up 83 of today’s new cases.

      East Khasi Hills accounted for 161 of the new infections – 48 among returnees, eight armed forces/paramilitaries, 37 high-risk contacts, four influenza-like illnesses (ILIs), 10 through screening, three health workers, four in Baniun, one in Barapathar, two in Bishnupur, three in Happy Valley, two in Jaiaw, two in Laban, two in Laitumkhrah, one in Madanrting, three in Mawbah, one in Mawdiangdiang, nine in Mawlai, five in Mawprem, three in Nongmynsong, three in Nongrim Hills, six in Khyndailad, one in Pynthor, one in Rynjah and two in Umpling.

      Ri-Bhoi reported 38 new cases (26 high-risk, eight returnees, three ILIs, one through screening), West Garo Hills 16 (five returnees, four high-risk, four in Phulbari, three through screening), West Jaiñtia Hills 12 (11 returnees, one ILI), East Garo Hills nine (eight high-risk, one returnee), East Jaiñtia Hills eight (four returnees, two high-risk, one ILI, one through screening), West Khasi Hills eight (five returnees, two police, one high-risk), South West Khasi Hills five (four health workers, one returnee), South Garo Hills four (all high-risk) and South West Garo Hills one (high-risk).

      There were also 192 recoveries – 135 in East Khasi Hills, 28 in West Jaiñtia Hills, 16 in Ri-Bhoi, five in East Jaiñtia Hills, four in West Garo Hills and four in West Khasi Hills.

      There are now 1,659 active Covid-19 cases in the state. East Khasi Hills alone accounts for 1,095 active cases and Ri-Bhoi 186, while West Jaiñtia Hills has dropped below one hundred again to stand at 85. Both East Jaiñtia Hills and West Garo Hills have 83 active infections each.

      In all, Meghalaya has had 17,108 Covid-19 cases, of which 1,659 are active, 15,275 have recovered and 174 have died from the virus. The recovery rate has fallen to 89.29 per cent. The fatality rate is 1.02 per cent. More than 2.98 lakh doses of the Covid-19 vaccine have been administered as of today in the state.
