Following the incident in Laban where a Booth Level Officer (BLO) was allegedly harassed and defamed while she was carrying out her duties, police have warned the public against repetitions of such events.
The BLO was turned away from a house in Laban while going door-to-door as part of the process to link Aadhaar and EPIC information. A photo of the BLO was then shared through social media cautioning the public that she was not who she said she was.
Police were informed by the BLO and today the authorities said that the complaint had been sent to court for cognizance and legal action is being taken.
“The district police would like to urge all to avoid spreading false information, not to malign anyone or create a false alarm without verifying the facts of the matter which would otherwise attract penal action,” a statement said.
Neighbourhood headmen were also requested to ensure that the public are fully informed of the activity of the Election Commission or any such department carrying out such a drive.
“Further, anyone obstructing those discharging their duties for the upcoming elections will be sternly dealt with,” police added.
