The group Garo Hills Youth Solidarity (GHYS) has accused an unnamed contractor and government officials over allegedly poor implementation of the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) in Chiokgre.
In yet another instance of reported failings and corruption within the implementation of the JJM in Meghalaya, GHYS said that, in this particular case, no water tank was constructed in the village, no water flows through the taps, there are not enough taps as per the provisions of the JJM and no action has been taken by the authorities despite numerous complaints by villagers.
Villagers have complained not just to the Public Health Engineering (PHE) Department but also the Deputy Commissioner and local MLA, Marcuise Marak, who happens to be the PHE Minister.
This particular project has been marked as completed but is far from that in reality.
GHYS wants the contractor investigated and corrective measures taken. It will also send a complaint to the central government as the JJM is a central scheme.
