Shillong, Dec 9: Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma has promised to raise the matter of land documents for the Khasi people residing in Mizoram.
Representatives of the Khasi Students’ Union (KSU), the Khasi Welfare Committee Mizoram and KSU Vairengte unit Mizoram met with the CM to address a pressing concern of the indigenous Khasi people in Mizoram. The discussion centred on the non-issuance of land settlement certificates (LSCs) by the Mizoram government, leaving the community in a state of uncertainty.
The Khasis from Mizoram have been promised action by successive governments but are yet to receive any certificates. More than 500 Khasis live along the Assam border, tracing their presence there to before 1930, Sangma was told.
The CM assured the delegation that he will engage in a dialogue with his Mizoram counterpart to push for the issuance of these certificates.
