Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma today declined to comment on the corruption allegations levelled at his brother-in-law, party colleague and Mahendraganj MLA, Sanjay A Sangma.
The Lokayukta Court charge-sheeted a former Chief Executive Member and eight former Executive Members of the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC), two contractors and a former GHADC Principal Secretary in connection with misuse of funds in implementation of various projects.
The Lokayukta charge-sheeted them under Sections 12 and 13 of the Prevention of Corruption Act on the basis of the investigation report submitted by the investigating officer and member of the inquiry wing of the Lokayukta, Anil Sangma.
The charge-sheeted MDCs included former CEM Denang T Sangma, former EMs Augustine R Marak, Brilliant R Sangma, Dipul R Marak, Kurosh M Marak, Winninson Ch Marak, Dolly K Sangma, Bhupen Hajong and Sukaram K Sangma.
Sanjay (now an MLA but during the period the charges pertain to a contractor) and Dolrich D Sangma are the two contractors who have been charge-sheeted.
Allegations were brought against the accused for misappropriating funds for the uncompleted MDC hostel in Tura, which was budgeted at more than Rs 6 crore.
Asked to comment today, the Chief Minister, who is also the National People’s Party president, said it is a judicial matter and is subjudice.
