Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma met with Union Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia in New Delhi today to impress upon him for the need for an international airport in Meghalaya.
The state currently only has one functioning airport at Umroi, which currently only services domestic flights.
The CM also proposed establishing heliports in Shillong and Tura.
Sangma also proposed the operationalisation of the dormant Baljek Airport, which is around 33km from Tura.
“These proposals are aimed at boosting our state’s tourism potential and economic growth through air connectivity,” he said.
