The Union Ministry of Finance has constituted a group of ministers (GoM) to study the concession or exemption of Covid relief materials from GST.
The GoM shall consist of Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma as the convenor, Nitinbhai Patel (Deputy Chief Minister of Gujarat), Ajit Pawar (Deputy CM of Maharashtra), Mauvin Godinho (Transport and Panchayati Raj Minister of Goa), KN Balagopal (Finance Minister of Kerala), Niranjan Pujari (Finance and Excise Minister of Odisha), T Harish Rao (Minister of Finance of Telangana) and Suresh Kr Khanna (Finance Minister of Uttar Pradesh) as members.
The GoM is tasked with examining the need for GST concession or exemption and make recommendations on Covid vaccines, drugs and medicines for treatment and testing kits to detect the virus.
The GoM shall also make recommendations on medical-grade oxygen, pulse oximeters, hand sanitisers, oxygen therapy equipment, such as concentrators, generators and ventilators, PPE kits, N-95 masks, surgical masks, temperature checking equipment and any other equipment required for Covid relief.
