Congress MLA Charles Marngar has urged the government to keep in abeyance the second phase of border talks with Assam but to first listen to the voice of dissent that surfaced after the first agreement was entered on the six areas of differences.
“Many including myself had opposed the MOU signed in the first phase so let us resolve the first phase before we proceed to the second phase so that this does not lead to any accident,” Marngar told reporters today.
“The danger lies in the fact that your will to resolve the boundary issue is also your will to bend over to the other side and let lose thousands square kilometres of our lands in the process which is unacceptable,” he stated.
The Congress MLA who is also a member of the regional committee for the Ri Bhoi sector maintained that not an inch of land will go to Assam.
