Shillong, Nov 8: Social activist from South Garo Hills Greneth M Sangma has expressed concern over the safety of the suspension bridge built by the Border Areas Development Department in Baghmara.
In a letter to the Baghmara Police Station, Sangma said the bridge over the Rompa River at Gonganagar was constructed without meeting the required stands as it has shown signs of improper workmanship within a short time of its construction, raising apprehensions about the safety of users.
“Given the daily usage by commuters and particularly the risk it poses to school children, immediate attention to this matter is imperative,” he requested.
Sangma sought an enquiry into the matter and to assess the safety and quality of the suspension bridge and to take immediate action against the engineer and contractor responsible for the construction of the bridge for any lapses in adhering to the prescribed standards and estimates.
