Representatives of political parties and two independent candidates participated in a common platform organised by ‘Ka Sur U Paidbah ka Bri Hynniewtrep’ on Saturday held at the National Dorbar Hall Mawkhar.
The discussion saw debate on issues such as the CAA, demand for ILP, inclusion of the Khasi-Garo language, and interstate boundary disputes.
Notably, the Congress, VPP, and NPP MP candidates did not attend the event, except for the two independent candidates, Lakhon Kma and Peter Challam, and the RDA was represented by UDP general secretary Jemino Mawthoh.
Jemino Mawthoh spoke about the boundary dispute with Assam, inclusion of the Khasi and Garo language, and the demand for the implementation of ILP. He emphasized the need for a solution that includes all stakeholders and called for political pressure to see demands like ILP implementation and language inclusion become a reality. He also urged for regional unity in the North East.
Lakhon Kma stressed on the importance of uplifting the poor and downtrodden in the state and suggested including skill development in the education system to promote students’ talents. He also highlighted the need for specialists in healthcare institutions, especially in rural areas, and called for job opportunities to be given to locals in all central institutions and offices in the state to promote entrepreneurship. He also addressed issues such as the border, ILP, and the inclusion of the Khasi language.
Peter Challam emphasised the importance of choosing the right candidate for MP elections, as they represent the entire state in the national parliament. Challam called for better healthcare, education, and employment generation.
The public also participated in the Q&A round and asked several questions to the political leaders, which were answered.
