A coke factory that was operating illegally was shut down by the East Jaintia Hills district administration today.
The factory was being run by Meghalaya Minerals Coke Plant in Umtyra.
Action was taken by the authorities, led by Additional Deputy Commissioner J Shylla accompanied by police, after it was learnt that the plant was operating without any valid documents.
The ovens were put out and boilers were cleared. The matter will also be taken up with the Meghalaya State Pollution Control Board for further action.
