Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma today laid the foundation for the Additional Secretariat Complex at Dakopgre Tura.
The Rs 156 crore project will have rooms for the Chief Minister and his cabinet, Chief Secretary and other senior officials. It will also house offices of different government departments.
Terming the project historic for the people of the state and particularly Garo Hills, he said, “The Additional Secretariat Complex is not just a building but a testament to the fulfilment of the aspirations of our people”.
He said the additional secretariat will serve the people of five districts of Garo Hills, who had to face a lot of problems to avail different government services.
The Chief Minister highlighted the progress of the New Secretariat building in Shillong constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 1800 crore and the planned intervention for districts and blocks across the state. The MDA government has scripted a road map to achieve its target to ensure that Meghalaya is one of the best states in the country, he said.
He also informed of the ongoing construction of Mini Secretariat in Jowai and Pynursla and the Rs 900 crore Tura bypass, which will decongest Tura.
“Shillong, Tura, Jowai, Nongstoiñ and Williamnagar— if we only develop towns and cities, we are not achieving our mission to make Meghalaya developed, hence, our attention is to rural areas, district wise and constituency wise we are working with concerted efforts to develop”, he added.
