As Gandhi Jayanti this year falls on a Sunday, the district administration of West Jaiñtia Hills will conduct a cleaning drive in Jowai on Friday to mark the holiday.
The area for the cleaning drive will include all market areas under Dorbar Chnong Tympang Club, including the CNI Market, Sein Raij Market and Jowai Presbyterian (Iaw Chyiap) Market.
The Deputy Commissioner has instructed all residents and shopkeepers within the Iawmusiang area to participate in the cleaning drive. The programme will start with a formal meeting to be held at 8am at the DC’s Office (Election) campus.
For a smoothly carried out cleaning drive, there will be No Entry for vehicles from 8am to 11am in the areas where the cleaning drive will be carried out. However, exceptions may be made only for emergency purposes. All parking lots within the areas mentioned will also remain closed during this period.
The DC has also advised residents not to bring their garbage from their homes and dump it in the market during the cleaning drive.
