The Trinamool Congress (TMC) and Congress Party both have similar messages for voters – choose MLAs at the state election next year carefully, preferring leaders over businessmen.
In South West Khasi Hills, general secretary of the Meghalaya TMC, Fabian Lyngdoh, called upon the public to choose their legislators wisely in the upcoming election instead of businessmen with vested interests. He was speaking at the public meeting of the TMC yesterday at Tynnai.
“We need real leaders in the Assembly and not mere MLAs who only long for the ‘work orders’,” he said, adding that TMC stands for the poor and downtrodden.
He said that the TMC is a secular party that does not interfere with others religious beliefs unlike the BJP who believe in one party, one religion.
“It is only the TMC who dares to stand against the BJP in the country and it is the party for the people and the grass root” he claimed.
TMC candidate for Mawkyrwat constituency, Sounder Strong Cajee, stressed that the state needs brave leaders like U Tirot Sing, Kiang Nangbah, Sngap Sing Syiem who can really protect the indigenous tribes and not be cowards who easily surrender before the enemy. He added that the state also needs policymakers and not money makers.
Meanwhile, addressing a party meeting on the inauguration of the Ri-Bhoi district Congress committee office yesterday in Nongpoh, Mawhati MDC Charles Marngar said that the district has no dearth of leadership in the past, but is being overshadowed by businessmen.
He said that businessmen trying to capture political power in Ri-Bhoi are not working for the purpose to help the poor and the marginalized communities, but their hidden intention is to extort wealth and resources.
Exhorting the people of the district to wake up ahead of the upcoming elections, Marngar said that the people of Ri-Bhoi and the state should realise that the businessmen have done nothing for the betterment of the people and instead have ruined the state by capturing businesses establishments for their vested interest.
The Congress Party will continue to fight against the hidden agenda of the businessmen and they will not let such power hungry people continue to rule the district and state, he added.
He asked the people of the state to support the Congress candidates from Ri-Bhoi, namely Rona Khymdeit from Nongpoh, Celestine Lyngdoh from Umsning, Adrian C Mylliem from Jirang and Marngar himself from Mawhati. The candidate for Umroi has yet to be decided.
