The Trinamool Congress (TMC) has announced that Nongthymmai MLA and state party president Charles Pyngrope will be the chairman of its state election committee for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.
Ampati MLA Miani D Shira has been appointed as the committee’s member secretary. The committee members comprise former Chief Minister and Songsak MLA Dr Mukul Sangma, Dadenggre MLA Rupa M Marak, Rajabala MLA Mizanur Rahman Kazi, Jowai MDC Andrew Shullai, Kharkutta MDC Cherak Momin, Meghalaya TMC vice-president James S Lyngdoh and Jayanta Das.
So far the party has appeared more keen to contest the Tura seat and has sounded willing to support the Congress Party in the Shillong race as part of the floundering opposition alliance. However, the Congress’s state unit has not warmed to the idea of forgoing Tura.
