State Trinamool Congress leader Charles Pyngrope slammed the Meghalaya government today for its “incessant negligence towards lower primary contractual teachers”.
Contractual teachers who were let go by the government in January last year had been protesting to be reinstated before the government partially caved to their demands recently; the government had decided to relax the age limit for the Meghalaya Teacher Eligibility Test (MTET) for these contractual teachers.
However, today Pyngrope said that a meeting of the Meghalaya government Lower Primary School Contractual Teachers’ Association and Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong yesterday had been “inconclusive” and showed that the government is not serious about addressing the issues.
He urged the government to look into the matter with a little more sincerity and prioritise the development of a plan of action to address the concerns raised by the contractual teachers.
