Following the detection of five Omicron cases in Meghalaya yesterday, the Ri-Bhoi district administration has increased its levels of vigilance at the Umling Covid-19 checkpoint, which acts as one of the major gateways to the state.
Speaking to the press today, Additional Deputy Commissioner MB Tongper said that, apart from the extra vigilance, the authorities have also clamped night curfew again on the district. All those coming into the state, even if doubly vaccinated, will have to produce a RT-PCR negative test report on entering the state.
The district administration, he added, is currently undertaking a vaccination drive on an ‘election mode’ in a bid to get as many people jabbed in order to protect against the Covid-19 virus.
