In an effort to bring together academics and researchers from around South and South East Asia working on hill ecology and agriculture, Central Agricultural University, Imphal, is hosting an international conference on the subject at its College of Post Graduate Studies in Agricultural Sciences at Umiam, Ri-Bhoi, which began today.
The three-day conference is being held in collaboration with the Indian Society of Agricultural Economics (ISAE), Mumbai.
The various sponsoring agency and the collaborators for this conference are Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD), Meghalaya Basin Development Authority (MBMA), Indian Council of Social Science Research, New Delhi, Spice Board and National Agricultural Higher Education Project (NAHEP).
The conference is expected to provide a forum for participants to exchange expertise, discover new advancements, and discuss agriculture in hilly and mountain landscapes.
There will be 14 keynote papers presented by eminent scientists in the field of agriculture, hill and mountain ecologies under seven technical sessions. Each session has oral presentations as well as poster presentations on the theme concerned. Academically, 150 research papers are to be presented by scientists from India as well as from the foreign countries like Thailand, Bangladesh, Philippines, Bhutan, Nepal and Sri Lanka. Altogether, 88 posters from different participating scientists are to be displayed in this conference.
