The state government is providing funds to districts and government departments to help Meghalaya improve its sustainable development goals (SDGs).
Meghalaya witnessed a slight jump in the national SDG rankings, going from 25th to 22nd in NITI Aayog’s SDG India Index 3.0 and the state government wants to see further improvement.
In a release today, Planning Department Secretary Joram Beda said that Meghalaya was the top performer in reducing inequality. However, in the North East Region’s SDG Index, which ranked 103 districts, Meghalaya’s best only came in at 57th position (East Khasi Hills), while its lowest (North Garo Hills) was close to absolute bottom in 98th place.
In this context, the government wants to improve its goals realisation and has thus formed an SDG Cell and is also developing indicator frameworks for localisation and developing monitoring tools for every district.
Additionally, the state government has created the Chief Minister’s Catalytic Fund for districts and State Level Catalytic Fund for departments. Funding for districts has been released to the tune of Rs 6 crore, Beda informed.
