The Federation of Khasi States has called for a meeting of the Dorbar Hima of Mylliem to sort out the messy situation surrounding Marten, the garbage dump that serves Shillong.
The Seng Samla Mawlai Pyllun today closed down the dumping ground at Mawlai Mawiong after Urban Affairs Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar failed to make good on a promise of inspecting the site and addressing its issues. Residents of the surrounding area are fed up with having to put up with the stench emanating from the dump.
The Federation of Khasi States said in a press release that the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) should call for a meeting of the Dorbar Hima to engage with the people of Mylliem, under which Marten falls.
Meanwhile, the Hynñiewtrep Integrated Territorial Organization (HITO) lauded the Seng Samla Mawlai Pyllun for taking action on Marten.
HITO condemned Dhar for not inspecting the garbage dump and extended support to the people of Mawlai Pyllun on the issue.
