The Meghalaya cabinet today approved the introduction of a scheme to grant ex-gratia relief to victims of mob lynching.
Chief Minister Conrad Sangma said that the scheme has been proposed so that if a life is lost then an ex-gratia payment of Rs 2 lakh will be given to the next of kin.
If the victim sustains a disability through the assault then they will be granted Rs 1 lakh in ex-gratia relief.
“This has been applied because of the fact that the Supreme Court has also mentioned that there should be a scheme on these lines,” Sangma informed.
