Byrnihat has shown improvement in air quality in terms of PM10 concentrations in FY 2023-24 as compared to 2017-18.
The industrial town located close to the border with Assam was among the 130 cities and towns in the country which was covered under the National Clean Air Programme (NCAP) launched by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change in January 2019.
According to the latest data of the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, the annual average of PM10 concentrations in Byrnihat in 2017-18 (micrograms per cubic meter) is 175.
The PM10 concentration in Byrnihat in 2023-24 (micrograms per cubic meter) is 104.
This showed that the PM10 concentration in Byrnihat in 2023-24 with respect to the year 2017-18 was reduced by 41 per cent.
NCAP envisages reduction in PM10 level up to 40 per cent or achievement of national standards (60 microgram/cubic meter) by 2025-26.
