Shillong, Jan 14: A woman sustained serious head injuries after a burglar attacked her early on Tuesday at her home in Upper Lachumiere.
Sources said Devi Basumatary was speaking on the phone in her verandah when she encountered the intruder who had already entered the house. The accused allegedly hit her on the head with a weapon, leaving her critically injured.
The incident happened at around 2 pm when the woman was alone. She is currently undergoing treatment at Nazareth Hospital, Shillong, where her condition is reported to be serious.
An FIR has been lodged at the Laitumkhrah Police Station.
Police have launched an investigation into the incident and efforts are underway to trace and apprehend the accused.
