Two Indian nationals were apprehended after allegedly trying to smuggle contraband across the international border into Bangladesh, the Border Security Force (BSF) informed today.
Acting on specific information, BSF Meghalaya personnel detained a vehicle loaded with contraband yesterday. During an initial inquiry, the driver and co-driver were unable to produce any valid documentation regarding the consignment, the border force said in a release. Accordingly, the BSF seized both the vehicle and the contraband and forwarded them and the two individuals to Umkiang police for further legal action.
In a separate operation, BSF troops successfully foiled an attempt to smuggle cattle and rescued 23 animals that were concealed in a jungle near the international border. These cattle were transported by road to the border area with the intention of smuggling them into Bangladesh, the BSF maintained.
