The Border Security Force (BSF) today recovered 57 cattle near Sonapur under Lumshnong in East Jaiñtia Hills district meant for smuggling to Bangladesh.
According to the BSF, the cattle were transported in four trucks that were coming from Khliehriat towards Umkiang. When the jawans signalled the truck drivers to stop near the mobile check post all of them fled leaving behind the cattle, a statement said.
The cattle were handed over to police at Lumshnong for further disposal.
The statement said that the BSF has identified vulnerable routes/patches and laid mobile check post to keep a check on cattle smuggling.
