Shillong, Dec 19: The Border Security Force (BSF) organised a medical seminar-cum-Continuing Medical Education (CME) programme along with a hands-on workshop on the management of airway during crisis and trauma at the Composite Hospital, Shillong today.
The seminar was inaugurated by BSF, New Delhi Inspector General / Director Medical, Dr. Umesh Tiwari in the presence of Ratan Lal Bagaria, DIG (PSO), FTR HQ BSF Meghalaya, Dr. R. C. Bishariya, DIG (Med) & Medical Superintendent, Composite Hospital, S. Ganesh, DIG, Sector HQ BSF Shillong and S. S. Soodan, DIG, Sector HQ BSF Jowai, along with other senior officers.
Senior members of the medical fraternity from the BSF, Assam Rifles and local Army establishments attended the seminar, highlighting strong inter-force cooperation in the field of medical sciences.
The opening academic session was delivered by Prof. (Dr.) Suvamoy Chakraborty, Medical Superintendent, NEIGRIHMS, Shillong, who presented an insightful lecture on “Penetrating Neck Trauma: What to Do”. The lecture generated active participation and in-depth discussions among medical officers, proving highly enlightening and clinically relevant.
Several other contemporary medical topics related to emergency and trauma care were covered during the day, significantly enhancing the professional competence of doctors providing medical care at primary and secondary level hospitals of the Force. A dedicated hands-on workshop on the management of difficult airways during crisis and trauma further strengthened practical skills essential for saving lives in critical situations.
The seminar and workshop were also attended by medical officers and specialists from the BSF and other Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) through online mode, ensuring wider outreach and knowledge sharing.
