The Border Security Force (BSF) in Meghalaya foiled a smuggling attempt and seized contraband worth Rs 34.15 lakh during a special operation launched along the Indo-Bangladesh border under West Jaintia Hills district.
The BSF said the special operation was carried out yesterday in surrounding area of Muktapur and Lynghat villages. While unidentified individuals approaching the border to collect smuggled goods were challenged, the smugglers manage to flee into the forest taking advantage of darkness.
The confiscated items included sugar, liquor, blankets, garlic, cosmetic, medicine, all intended for illegal smuggling into Bangladesh. All the items were handed over to the concern customs Office for further investigation and legal action.
