A breakdown in the 750mm diameter CI Gravity Main of the Greater Shillong Water Supply Scheme at Mawkriah village yesterday has left the state capital without water supply.
The supply will only be reconnected by the evening of October 2, a press release informed today.
The areas affected are Shillong Municipal Board areas, Shillong Cantonment Board areas, Nongthymmai and Mawlai.
“Every effort is being made to complete the repair works for restoration of normal water supply by the evening of October 2, 2021,” the release added.
Meanwhile, the Meghalaya Pradesh Mahila Congress has criticised the PHE department and stated it was its total failure.
“The breakdown of water supply in the urban area is happening too often for our liking,” said Mahila Congress president Joplyn Shylla said, questioning, “In this pandemic , how are we suppose to take care of our personal hygiene if water supply keeps breaking down every week ?”
