Incessant rains and massive flooding has affected border residents of Borghat, Kharkhana, Pasadwar as a result of the Tisang River overflowing.
Following the continuous downpour, water levels of several rivers were on the rise. Among them, Amlati, Amsohkyrchoh and Ammara rivers overflowed and inundated the villages affecting the livelihoods of farmers.
While no loss of human life has been reported so far, the ground floors of several houses have got submerged due to heavy downpours and several commuters and motorists with small vehicles were stranded.
“Residents of these villages always live in fear during the monsoons because floods always occur due to swelling of the rivers,” HYC War Jaiñtia circle president, Yoodahunki Shylla.
With no bridges connecting the border villages, he said it becomes difficult for farmers to even cross the rivers to sell their produce.
He further urged the government to address the plight of the border residents.
