On the second phase of boundary talks between Meghalaya and Assam, Deputy Chief Executive Member in the KHADC, Pynshngain N Syiem maintained that the first and foremost thing is to get the confidence of the border residents.
Stating that one of the criteria of the agreement signed between the two states is the historical perspective, he said that the stand of the executive council of the KHADC and the council would be to carry along the confidence of the Dorbar Shnong, Hima and Raid, including the historical perspective
Informing that the boundary committee constituted by the KHADC is to convene a series of meetings with stakeholders and study the different issues and build up documents, he said, “We are discussing this from time to time not necessarily only at the regional committee level but with all the concerned stakeholders, including the Dorbar Shnong, Hima and Raid, and are compiling everything before submitting to the EC and regional committee at the state level for a decision.”
On the recent statement by Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong that the government will seek the retransfer of Block 1 and Block 2 from Assam during the ongoing boundary talks, Syiem said, “The Deputy CM was referring to a 1951 notification where it was officially notified by the then Governor of Assam to transfer Block 1 and Block 2 to (the erstwhile) Mikir Hills district that belongs to us and we (the KHADC and Meghalaya government) are on the same page.”
