A block level awareness programme to observe Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav-India@75 was held at U Tirot Sing memorial hall in Pyndengumiong Mairang today organised by the office of the BDO, Mairang C&RD Block in collaboration with the Village Employment Councils(VECs) of Mairang C&RD Block.
During the programme, resource persons represent departments of Agriculture, Animal Husbandry & Veterinary, Fishery, Health &Family Welfare and representatives of Meghalaya Rural Bank, Mairang Branch during their speeches highlighted about the various schemes and programmes, including schemes under MGNREGA, PMAY, NRLM and others.
Meghalaya Legislative Assembly Speaker and Local MLA, Metbah Lyngdoh who attended the programme as chief guest said the programme is a platform for government departments to create mass awareness on the different schemes and programmes of the government aimed at the welfare of the citizens of the State.
Lyngdoh took the occasion to call upon the participants gathered at the programme to reap the benefits of the awareness programme with resource persons and experts drawn from various government departments and financial institutions.
He also urged citizens who are yet to receive COVID-19 vaccination to get themselves vaccinated at the earliest to help contain the spread of Covid-19 in the State and country.
KHADC EM in charge Elaka Administration, Jambor War said Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav provides an opportunity for the country to honour the valour and sacrifice of freedom fighters.
Additional Deputy Commissioner in charge Mairang Civil Sub –Division, A. Nongbri, Block Development Officer, Mairang C&RD Block, V. Swer, officials representing various government departments, headmen as also chairmen and secretaries of VECs under Mairang Block attended the programme.
The programme also featured skits and patriotic songs performed by artistes representing different VECs of Mairang Block.
