State BJP spokesperson, Mariahom Kharkrang has said that the party had a lot of things that went wrong for the party in the Gambegre by election.
“We will introspect and find out what went wrong and probably we will have to change our strategy on how to campaign here in Meghalaya because every time elections are there, the religious card is played and now we have to counter that,” Kharkrang said.
The BJP spokesperson said that during the 2023 assembly polls the party tried to do that but there is a lot more to do.
He said that all the senior leaders of the party will sit down and with all honesty look into what are the drawbacks and corrective actions that will have to be taken before the next elections.
Kharkrang said that looking at the way the party is performing there is a lot that needs to be done. He also said at the ground level anyone would agree that with the BJP government at the centre, development reaches.
“They have compared the way our state is developing with the other states but when it comes at the fag-end of the term or just before the elections date, then the religion card comes into the picture. So this has been happening for long time and for the next election we have to gear up how to counter this,” the BJP spokesperson said.
It may be mentioned that BJP candidate Bernard Marak got only 710 faring better by only four votes against independent candidate Jerry Sangma who secured 706 votes.
Another independent candidate Sengkrabirth Marak got 147 votes while 95 votes went to NOTA.
