Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) national secretary Rituraj Sinha today questioned how a poor state like Meghalaya could boast of super rich politicians.
“Looking at the affidavits of politicians like Metbah Lyngdoh (of the United Democratic Party), James Sangma (of the National People’s Party), Dr Mukul Sangma (of the Trinamool Congress) and others who have declared their property worth hundreds of crores of rupees, I want to asked these politicians where have they gathered and accumulated all this money from?” Sinha said.
Stating that the GDP growth of Meghalaya is one of the slowest in the North East and with Meghalaya running in budget deficit of nearly Rs 2,000 crore, he wondered how the politicians are getting richer year by year.
What he left unsaid is how the BJP politicians are also crorepatis, such as both the party’s sitting MLAs – AL Hek and Sanbor Shullai, who have (along with their spouses) crores in both movable and immovable assets.
The vast wealth of the (non-BJP) politicians could be behind their fear of a BJP government, Sinha added, and the exposure of “all their black activities”.
The BJP blasted the NPP-led government for denying permission to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to hold a rally at the PA Sangma Stadium in Tura. The government’s argument was that the stadium is not complete, though this led the saffron party to ask why it was inaugurated recently if it is still yet to be finished.
“Meghalaya per capita income is only Rs 58,000, which is the lowest in the entire country and they are trying all these stunts (preventing the rally) to stall the BJP wave in Meghalaya,” Sinha lambasted.
He also hurled insults at the TMC’s Abhishek Banerjee, who had earlier accused the BJP (which is part of the state governing coalition) of being involved in the corruption it seeks to expose.
