The State BJP is expecting the list of Lok Sabha election candidates for Meghalaya to be released tomorrow.
“Maybe tomorrow,” was the reply of State BJP spokesman Mariahom Kharkrang when Highland Post asked about the date when the party’s list for Meghalaya would be out.
There are five contenders for the BJP ticket for the Shillong seat and six others for the Tura seat.
Cabinet minister Alexander L. Hek is among the five contenders for BJP ticket for the Shillong seat. Others include former State party president Ernest Mawrie, Fenela Lyngdoh Nonglait, State BJYM president Mewaker Lyngdoh and BJP National Executive member Sumitra Laloo.
Moreover, the ticket aspirants for Tura seat include sitting Tura MDC Bernard N. Marak, former MLAs – Winnerson D. Sangma and K C Boro, former MDC Boston Marak, Riya Sangma and Thomas Marak.
Recently, BJP MLA from South Shillong Sanbor Shullai has openly backed the candidature of Fenela Lyngdoh Nonglait from the Shillong seat. He has also appealed to the other ticket contenders to support her.
However, another ticket aspirant Ernest Mawrie said that the ticket should go to a member of the party “since only a party member knows the ideology of the party”.
Mawrie also said that he and Hek were asked by the central leadership of BJP to apply for the ticket to contest the upcoming Lok Sabha election from Shillong parliamentary seat.
