The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is banking on central schemes to garner people’s support in the Lok Sabha polls in Meghalaya where it has never emerged as a single dominant force.
BJP vice president in-charge Meghalaya, Chuba Ao agreed that the party has never done well in the last couple of Lok Sabha polls. But said, this time around the party will go to the people and inform them how the central government is implementing the schemes.
“This time we will go to the grassroots level. Previously it was not reached,” Ao said.
He stated that till date many individuals have verbally approached the party showing their interest to contest the 2024 Lok Sabha polls from Shillong and Tura seats.
According to him in both Shillong and Tura seats, the BJP is strong but in the previous elections, the party could not channelise (its advantage).
However, the BJP in-charge of Meghalaya said that the workers have been instructed to start working for the parliamentary election.
On the probable candidates for the upcoming election, he said that the matter will be first discussed with the state party leaders and it will go to the national level and finally Prime Minister, Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah, will see to whom the tickets will be allotted.
On the recent statement of BJP legislator and cabinet minister, AL Hek that the party’s failure to win the last Lok Sabha polls was the late announcement of a candidate, Ao blames lack of organisation.
“If the organisation is weak we will have a tough time selecting the candidate. But this time we are strengthening the organisation before the Lok Sabha polls,” he said.
Ao also said that the BJP will run solo and that they will not have any compromise with other political parties, though the National Democratic Alliance will exist.
