A motorbike rider lost his life after being run over and crushed by a 16-wheeler truck at the Pahammawlein toll gate in Ri-Bhoi today.
The accident occurred at around 12:30pm when the two Assam-registered vehicles came together. Both the motorbike (AS 04Y 0825) and lorry (AS 01SC 5581) were travelling towards Shillong when they met with an accident just before reaching the toll gate.
According to eyewitnesses, the truck first ran over the biker with its front wheels, trapping the rider under the middle wheels of the 16-wheeler truck, leading to the fatal accident.
Upon receiving information about the incident, Byrnihat police outpost personnel arrived at the scene to initiate an investigation. Authorities have taken custody of the deceased’s body and have also seized the truck for further legal proceedings.
