The Meghalaya unit of the United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU), an umbrella organisation comprising nine trade unions for bank employees, decided today to defer their protest.
The joint forum of bank unions had earlier announced to go on strike to press their various demands January 30 and 31.
The strike is to raise the six charter of demands such as introduction of a five-day week, update of pensions for past retirees, recruitment in all cadres to ensure better customer service, scrapping of New Pension Scheme and restoration of the old scheme, resolution of unsettled demands regarding the last wage revision and immediate commencement of negotiations for the next wage revision.
During a protest outside the SBI main branch here this evening, UFBU Meghalaya unit, Joint Convener Davis Lyngdoh announced that the Indian Banks’ Association (IBA) has come out with a positive response.
UFBU held talks with the Chief Labour Commissioner in Mumbai today wherein both agreed to hold another discussion again on January 31.
